Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was spent like every other. . .day?  Lane had work off, boys had school.  So Lane, Amber and little one went on an excursion with a friend from church to the oldest temple in Beijing.

Everything is a way to pray, incense, candles, tablets, streamers.  All of which you must buy of course.

You can pay to ring the bell, which is another way to offer a prayer.

Incense, it burns in a spiral.

At times it felt like a carnival as they had "games" you could pay to "play".  This one is to throw coins in the center of the big coin and if you make the little bell ring your prayer will be answered.  Yes, people were paying to play.

Rubbing the fish from head to tail was actually free, but you should rub it 3 times to grant your wish.

Candles shaped in ancient money, can guess what these prayers are for.  Interestingly the line to make offerings in this section was the longest.

Before paying to go in you can buy all your prayer supplies here.  But don't worry, if you missed these stalls there were carts inside for that forgotten prayer offering.

Later that night, after the boys came home from school, we joined other families for a potluck, traditional, homecooked Thanksgiving dinner.

Cache Race

Family outing to the Old Summer Palace.  We didn't really see the touristy ruins as we were too busy having a Geocache race.
Teams:
Lane, Guy and Drake
Amber, Duncan and Grahm

Lilly pads with and edge.  Beautiful!!

I was the lucky one to find this cache, under a bridge, between the cobwebs, though some janitor cleaning supplies, behind a steel beam.  Bingo!

We took turns finding them.

Winner: Team Amber with the most finds!!!  Team Lane with the fastest finishing time!!! (Team Amber could have been faster if she didn't stop every few feet to take a picture!)

Catch Up

Life and responsibilities got ahold of us for a while, so now it is time for a little catch-me-up, or catch-you-up.

Last day of summer for us.
We headed to where the beach volleyball Olympic event was held and swam the day away.

Drake came home with a watermelon boat.  He still loves it!

First day of school.

Guy finished the summer and started the school year with a acting gig.  One of the times I dropped him off I ran over a hidden crowbar sticking straight up in the air and ripped a beautiful hole in my tire.  Hot and under mosquito attack, I slowly figured out where the hidden tools were and how to get the spare out.  Just as I was jumping onto the lug wrench, a kind gentleman stopped, braved the mosquitos and finished the job for me.  Bless his soul!!!

老二 和 老三, Second and third son tried out lacrosse this year and loved it!  Unfortunately it didn't work with our schedule.

Grahm getting ready for the school's annual 5K.

This year I agreed to be the registrar for our Cub Scout Pack.  Wow, did this job take over my life!  But it has been a blast attending meetings with Grahm.

Our Pack's hike on the Great Wall.

Our apartment complex throws the tenants some pretty nice parties a couple of times a year.  This one is for the Fall Festival or Moon Festival.

Grahm and his besties from school.

Unit on Peking Opera.  I kept waiting for them to sing. . .

Boy Scouts.
My two oldest came home from this activity with new life plans of becoming a Marine!

We also had two birthdays.  Guy 15 and Duncan 12.
