Ger Country

Headed to the countryside for a few days.
First stop: Chingis (Genghis) Khaan, there is no missing this mighty warrior.

While visiting the Genghis Khaan statue we bought a beautifully illustrated book, "The Secret History of the Mongols".  We bought it from the artist who had also abridged this famous story.  The English translation, well, did I mention is was beautifully illustrated?  Well worth the money, it is beautiful!!

Genghis Khaan's mother.  A very wise woman.

Second stop: 13th Century
Gers were set up to show different living conditions, religious practices and culture practices of the times.  I believe there were six different stops that we drove to.

Khaan's headquarters

Food provided at this stop.  Plenty of opportunity to dress up!  We took full advantage.

Inside a typical ger.

Handcrafted wall hangings were unique and fun.

 Transportation for the ger.

This Library ger was one of our favorites.  Lane and Guy quickly started a game of chess.

Different Mongolian fonts used through the ages.

Third stop: Our ger home for three days.

We stayed in a tent complex of sorts with three Mongolian families.

We brought games to play, the favorite, bingo.  The Mongolians really got into it.  Lane did a pretty good job of translating the information until it got exciting and then he would tell the Mongolians in English and us in Mongolian what the new number was.

If you look closely you'll see the dish for the T.V.

You may be wondering what this picture is for. . .it is the facilities.  Three sided half shack (as it went up to the stomach) sheltering the hole in the ground.

The boys fell in love with this little injured goat.

Horse hugging, every chance they got they would put their muzzles on each others necks.

Beautiful country!  We were told that the year was a hard one and more brown than usual.
