Missionary Memories

The last memory Lane has with this gentleman is trying to wake him on a cold morning to go work on filling out the gentleman's mission papers.  Now he is a Stake President (a church leader over half of the members in Mongolia).  He and his wife both served missions and have a beautiful family.  They treated us to dinner at this campsite and most of the crew hiked to the top of the mountain.

This lady holds a special place in Lane's heart.  Fun memories, like making pizza in a tiny oven and holiday meals are shared with her family.  See the young man below?  He was five when Lane last saw him.  He also served a mission and is now getting married.

While visiting Mongolia we had three neat experiences:
  1. Attending the baptism of a gentleman.
  2. Lane and I being asked to speaking in sacrament meeting with Lane and Guy helping with the Sacrament.  I used a translator and Lane was able to give half of his talk in Mongolian.
  3. That same Sunday Lane and Guy were asked to take the Sacrament to an elderly gentleman who is now too sick to attend church.  This gentleman and Lane remembered each other.  He was the first Mongolian Patriarch (for a definition see 'The Office of Patriarch' at lds.org).  His wife is a famous Mongolian movie star and opera singer.  She sang a few songs for our pleasure, it was beautiful.  This experience is one of our most treasured memories of our trip.

Same church building, but now with a few upgrades, like a baptismal font.

One of the apartment buildings Lane lived in.  Talk about high end living!

Old Mission Home.  Where the administrative work for the mission took place.

We feel so grateful that we were able to make this trip as a family.  The boys were able to get a peek into missionary life and what Lane experienced while serving for two years.  The Mongolian members we met were delightful and full of the gospel light.
