Coming To A Close

Slowly making our way south back down to Wellington we stopped at our last camping spot on the trip, Waitoetoe Beach.  Still trying to decide if we should stay one night or two we walked down the path from the parking lot, heard the roar of the surf turned the corner to basically see this. . .

Lane looked at me and said, "We're staying two nights!"  I couldn't agree more.  Not only was it the perfect camping spot on a small cliff overlooking a black sand beach, but it was free and allowed camp fires.  What more could we ask for?!?!

Boys barely helped set up camp before they were in the water.

The water never stopped being a wash machine, which worked out perfectly for the boys, they didn't have to go to far to play in some fun waves.

We have fire!!

See Duncan's poor face?  He sunburned pretty good early on, while wearing a hat!  We wondered if this boy was even going to make it home.  He was so battered and bruised, scratched and burned.  If there is a path to take, you will find him on the side roughing it instead.

Time to say good-bye.  We stayed our last night around the corner from the airport in Wellington.  Big help for a 5:30 am arrival time.

If you are wondering who the dragon is. . .it is I, the mother!

Although flying home on the back of an eagle would indeed be awesome, we chose a metal bird completely enclosed with many media options.

Views from the plane heading home sweet home.
